The Greensboro Swarm, the NBA G League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, today announced that $3,083 has been raised for the Greensboro YMCA financial assistance program through the online themed jersey auction. A total of 16 jerseys, most worn in the game, were sold out after the team donned the sports and healthy lifestyle-themed uniform at the Fieldhouse at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex on Feb. 25.
“The jersey nights are always special because they focus, on and off the pitch, on our partner and the important causes he continues to have on our community,” said Swarm President, Steve Swetoha. “We have had a unique relationship with the Greensboro YMCA over the past five seasons which has had a positive impact on our community. The Greensboro YMCA continues to play an important role in our community and we know the funds raised through the jerseys will benefit their impactful programming.
The YMCA version of the themed jersey focused on youth development and healthy living through sports and youth programs. In the signature teal and purple, the jersey featured symbols for programs and activities prominently. The YMCA logo was mixed into the background of the jersey.
“Our partnership with the Greensboro Swarm is invaluable,” said Rhonda Anderson, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greensboro. “The partnership provided a fun, family-friendly event through the YMCA themed sweater night as well as funds for the Y’s financial assistance program. With the amount of funds raised at the event, we will have the opportunity to provide additional support to individuals, youth, families and seniors throughout the community.
More than $15,000 has been donated to local nonprofits, including the YMCA, in team history through five themed jersey auctions since 2016.
