The dhb long sleeve jersey is as unusual as its name is generic – it looks fluffy but not really for winter. Its thick fabric breathes great and it’s cool enough for fairly hot days, but it’s slightly more comfortable than a short-sleeved sweater if the weather is uncertain. The relaxed fit doesn’t extend to slim arms, but for the price, this is a great top.
There is a lot to praise about this jersey, so let’s start with the negatives just for fun.
The relaxed fit doesn’t look quite right – my upper chest was falling a bit loose even though my shoulders were quite wide, while the sleeves were (very comfortably) form-fitting. The easy stretch of body tissue (updated, dhb says, compared to the old design) will suit all kinds of tummies, and the overall look is good. My wife actually complimented me on how she looks, which is rare as she usually thinks I’m dressed like some sort of aero clown.
The construction is also excellent, with neat and strong stitching, comfortable overlock seams and an effective silicone dart in the tail. There is even a perfectly matching zip.
There are little reflective stripes on the cuffs and back pockets, although this eye-catching sky blue arguably does more to get you noticed than these. There are also neon yellow or red versions available, but that’s your bundle – no black or navy, unlike the very similar dhb short sleeve jersey I was testing at the same time.
Perhaps the relative lack of options indicates that dhb expects to sell less of this LS version – it’s certainly a more specialized thing, given that it’s barely hotter than the SS version, and covers your arms but does not protect against UV rays. However, it works well on the toughest days, especially on a base layer, and makes a thin but useful mid layer.
As with the short-sleeved version, its only real issue is the back pocket design. Where normally you find three roughly equal pockets, this has two; one (on the right) which is a third of the width, and another which is two thirds.
This, combined with the very easily stretchy fabric, means anything strong or heavy tends to bounce when you’re not in the saddle and will slide the entire jersey down until the zipper is off-center. My phone never felt safe because the grip of the fabric is so loose and there’s no easy way to keep it in the middle so that it doesn’t at least work by your side.
There is a loop tacked into the elastic that covers the pockets, just to one side of the midline, however, if you want to keep your pump upright.

Like his short-sleeved brother, there isn’t much that can stand the candle in this for value. At £ 35, it’s almost half the price of even other high-value competitors, such as the Altura Icon long sleeve jersey (£ 59.99) or the Lusso Momentum LS (£ 74.99). Okay, it’s not a warm winter top like many, but it’s also considerably cheaper than most short sleeve summer tops.

Overall this dhb jersey is comfortable, very well made and at a fantastic price. The arm / chest shape doesn’t look quite right and the pockets are a bit small, but for occasional riding or hiking – or as a cheap but effective mid layer for training – it’s a good buy.
Comfortable and effective for use alone or in layers, although the fit isn’t perfect – and pockets are an issue

The quality, appearance and to a large extent the performance impress here, certainly for the price. Even though the relaxed fit isn’t quite perfect, it’s still a comfortable and useful top, but the pockets are a sticking point. For anything heavier than diapers and gels, they’re pretty desperate. It’s a solid seven though.
