MAYOR JOSHI APPOINTS SOUTH ASIA’S FIRST FEMALE MUNICIPAL COURT JUDGE IN EDISON AND NEW JERSEY
Newly elected Mayor Sam Joshi continues to break down barriers, this time in Edison City Court
EDISON, NJ – Mayor Sam Joshi is proud to announce that he has appointed Dipti Vaid Dedhia, Esq. for a judgeship in the Edison Municipal Court. Following her confirmation last night by the city council, Dedhia will be the first female judge of a South Asian municipal court in the history of Edison and New Jersey.
“It was truly an honor and a privilege to appoint Dipti Vaid Dedhia as the next Edison Municipal Court Judge,” Mayor Joshi proclaimed. “She is the most qualified and ready for the job.”
Currently Deputy Attorney General of the Employment and Labor Council for the State of New Jersey, Dedhia graduated from George Washington University before receiving her Juris Doctor from Seton Hall Law School. She has spent decades litigating complex employment matters, investigating complaints involving violations of law or policy, and representing the Governor’s Office of Employee Relations in grievance arbitration between administration and trade unions.
Speaking of her many accomplishments and what this nomination means to her, Dedhia had this to say: “When I was young I didn’t know what I wanted to do for my career, but I had two wonderful parents who helped me. motivated to fight for a life full of meaning and awareness. In recognition of their immense impact on my life, one of my main goals in my new role is to be an example for young people today. My message to them is simple: While the path may not be clear as you stand here today, your goals are attainable. Achieving your dreams through courage, kindness and perseverance is not a cliché – I am living proof!
In addition to his years of experience providing legal advice on labor laws, anti-discrimination policies, prevailing wage laws and best employment practices; Dedhia was also the recipient of the prestigious Most Successful Mediator Award in the Passaic County Superior Court Clerk’s Program. She has also competed in national civil rights contests, is certified in deposition skills by the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, and is a frequent contributor to the Huffington Post, Brown Girl Magazine, and Aerogram.
Originally born in London, Dedhia moved to New Jersey with her parents when she was two years old and has lived in the state for 36 years, twenty of them as an Edison resident. She enjoys spending her free time at home with her husband and three young children – ages one, four and seven.
