Britain’s most successful Paralympian, Dame Sarah Storey, has used her platform to highlight road safety issues, sharing a video of drivers passing her during training to show how it’s done.

In September, Storey joined South Yorkshire Police in a close quarters operation, with almost one in five drivers being pulled over for roadside tips.

Today’s video comes as it was announced that the 17-time Paralympic gold medalist is stepping down as active travel commissioner for South Yorkshire, having been named the region’s first in April 2019.

“It’s been fantastic to lay a solid foundation for the Active Travel Network and I can’t wait to see the next phase being delivered soon,” Storey said.

Working with Mayor Dan Jarvis, the duo created the Active Travel Implementation Plan for South Yorkshire, which details how over 1,000km of routes, 800 safe crossings and 230km². low-traffic neighborhoods will help transform the territory by 2040.
